Lesion Removal Minor Surgery

Moles, Cysts and Skin Tags

At Strathearn Glasgow Clinic moles, cysts and skin tags are surgically removed by our fully qualified UK and GMC registered surgeon using local anaesthetic.

Moles, skin tags and cysts are normally completely harmless but can be troublesome and unsightly. They can cause discomfort. At Strathearn Glasgow Clinic our surgeon surgically removes lesions under local anaesthetic, after which stitches are applied. The procedure is fairly straight forward and can take 45 minutes from start to finish. The procedure is carried out in our Glasgow clinic in a clean sterile room using sterile one use surgical equipment.

Before the minor surgery our surgeon who holds a specialist NHS post, will have a consultation with you. During which the clinic surgeon will go through with you, your medical history, expectations, the procedure, aftercare, side effects, any complications that may arise during and after the minor surgery and any questions or concerns you may have regarding the procedure.  Our surgeon will all discuss with you about testing the lesion including costs for this service. All lesions when required are tested at an independent Lab in Edinburgh. After the consultation you can decide if you still wish to have the lesion removed and when.

During the minor surgery the surgeon will check your vitals and inject the area with local anaesthetic. Once the area is numb the surgeon will remove the lesion by scalpel and stitch the wound.  The procedure will normally leave scaring, how noticeable this will be depends on various factors like how big the lesion is. Our surgeon will try to minimize the scaring especially if the lesion is in the facial area. Bruising can also occur. Most scars will fade within the first 12 months some will fade quicker. To help the healing process after stitches are removed, you can massage the area gently.

After minor surgery is completed our surgeon will assess you ensuring you are fine to leave the clinic.  We advise patients to limit touching the wound area unless hands are clean, not to apply makeup or perfume lotions while the wound is healing.  You will be supplied with a home sterile pack for cleaning the wound, copy of the aftercare and an appointment to return for stitches to be removed. Stitches are normally removed between 5 to 14 days depending on the area. It can be normal for the wound area to form a scab this will normally disappear within a week or two. Any inflammation that occurs will normally disappear within a few weeks. Patients can return to normal activities after the minor surgery.

Returning to the clinic to have your stitches removed. This procedure can take as little as 5 minutes and is virtually pain free. After your stitches are removed you can come back to Strathearn clinic to see the doctor if you require.

Parking on Bath Street on Sunday’s is FREE like most of the city center.  Strathearn Glasgow clinic is near to Charing Cross train station opposite Kings theater and on a main bus route.  See our price list.
